Dr. Charles DeSassure has served as a dean at three colleges in three different states: Virginia Peninsula Community College in Hampton, Virginia; Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma; and Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, Texas. Before these leadership roles, he spent 20 distinguished years at Tarrant County College, serving in various academic and administrative positions. His diverse professional background also includes 10 years in the information technology industry and service as a public-school teacher in South Carolina. This unique combination of experience in education, leadership, and industry has shaped his commitment to student success, workforce development, and academic excellence.
Currently, Dr. Charles DeSassure serves as Dean of Technology at Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) in Beaumont, Texas. He oversees two departments: Industrial and Engineering Technology (IAET) and Manufacturing and Trades Technology (MATT).
Dr. DeSassure is a recognized leader in computer science and cybersecurity. He holds a Doctor of Computer Science degree with a concentration in cybersecurity and information assurance from Colorado Technical University. He also earned a master’s degree in information and resource management from Webster University, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Claflin University, and an associate degree in computer technology from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. In addition, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Leadership and Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He has completed several prestigious professional development programs, including Harvard University’s Management Development Program, Stanford University’s Advanced Computer Security Program, Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Project-Based Learning Institute, and the League for Innovation in the Community College AI Fellows Program. He is also a Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP).
